for Parents
How can you help your Scout get the most from
Scouting?
Scouting is all about learning new things, building
character, setting a compass for life and developing leadership skills.
This is achieved through a series of age-appropriate activities which
are both challenging and fun. No two Scouts mature at the same
pace and the Scouting program is flexible enough to accommodate each
boy's individual development. This is unique and important
because, while boys may mature at different speeds, and plateau at
times, by the end of high school everything tends to level-out.
Troop 455 is a Boy-Led Troop. The Adult Leaders
set the rules for safe and appropriate conduct, as well as the calendar.
The Scouts then run the Troop through the Patrol Leaders Council.
As a parent, the best way to help your son is to be
interested in his activities; be aware of his progress, ask him what he
is doing and what does he like about it, ask how you can help him and
offer advice.
